India's Honest Bureaucrats Who Raised a Voice against the Corrupt

Bangalore: Corruption is the most common social problem in India where everyone including the rich and the poor, are in one way or the other indulging in this act. It has now become a trend among the leaders of the country to hold this tag of corruption. But, the country still has bureaucrats who are free from this so called corruption. Here is a list of India’s honest bureaucrats who have raised their voice against corruption.

Durga Shakti Nagpal:

Durga Shakti Nagpal is a young 2010 batch IAS cadre from Chattisgarh who came into the limelight after taking action against corruption and for initiating a massive drive against illegal sand mining mafia within her jurisdiction of Gautam Budh Nagar in Uttar Pradesh.

This young and honest bureaucrat defies courage and took on the powerful sand mining mafia in Western Uttar Pradesh that poses a great threat to the environment in and around the river. However, in retaliation to her act, the UP government took no time in bringing her down from her post and accused her of creating communal tension by ordering the demolition of a religious structure.

Nagpal has a degree in Computer Engineering and had bagged an all-India rank of 20 in the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) examinations in 2009. Initially she had spent over two years in Punjab as an officer-under-training with the Mohali administration and had changed to Uttar Pradesh (UP) cadre after her marriage to Abhishek Singh, who was an IAS officer in the UP cadre. She was then appointed as SDM of Gautam Budh Nagar.
