Indians who Left Their High Profile Jobs to Join Politics


Bangalore: Politics is something that allures people from all sorts of background. In India, people from non political background and the highly educated man to the most illiterate person have tried their hand in this game despite the fact that it is a risky profession. Nandan Nilekani, former co-chairman of Infosys Technologies and presently the Chairman of the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) is one such well known  technocrat who is all set to join Congress party. Not just him, there are many Indian professionals who have ventured in the political arena. Here are the names of such politicians as listed by Business Standard-

1. Jairam Ramesh:

Jairam Ramesh, who is well known as an Indian economist and politician, was an engineer by profession. In the 70s, he was employed with the World Bank for a brief assignment and later, he had assisted economist Lovraj Kumar at the Bureau of Industrial Costs and Prices. The economist, during the period 1983 - 1985 was an Officer on Special Duty in the Advisory board of Energy and then worked in the Planning Commission, too. Presently, Jairam Ramesh is a politician belonging to Indian National Congress which is the majority party in the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) and holds the portfolio of the Minister of Rural Development.
