India, UK Join Hands to Strengthen India's Education System


Bangalore: The dire need to improve the quality of education in India has finally found its way for enhancement. India is tying up with UK to bring in the change that is much required in the education sector. The two countries have signed two memorandums of understanding or MoUs to encourage development of community colleges and application School Leadership Programme, reported Manash Pratim Gohain for TNN.

On behalf of India the MoUs were signed by minister of state, HRD, Jitin Prasada and for UK by Davis Willetts, who is the minister for Universities and Science in New Delhi. As a member of high level delegation Willetts was in India. The delegation is led by British Prime Minister, David Cameron. There were also discussions made by the two sides on the ways and methods to strengthen the education sector in India.

It was duly noted by Prasada during the discussion, the statement made by British PM on increasing the number of Indian students getting admission in UK and making it easier to process visa. The suggestion of increasing the validity of the English proficiency test of the Indian students, which currently is two years to five years or more was also made by the British PM.

M M Pallam Raju, the HRD minister who later joined the Indian delegation said that the Indian government has been focusing on the school education, which it considers critical. The cooperation of the British Government was requested in the implementation of Right to Education (RTE). The initiative taken by the government in promoting community colleges was highlighted and the areas where bilateral cooperation can be used were explained by the HRD minister.
