India: The Favorite Destination of Bangladeshis

Bangalore: India has turned out to be the most preferred destination of Bangladeshis and the number of people migrating from Bangladesh to India has tremendously increased. The United Nations has termed this occurrence to be "the single largest bilateral stock of international migrants" in the eastern hemisphere and in the developing world as well, reports Kounteya Sinha for The Times of India.

India is home to 3.2 million Bangladeshi residents who have migrated from their land, reveals a study by the UN Department of Economic and Social Affairs (UN-DESA). On the other hand, if you take a look at the migrating tendency of Indians to other nations, the Middle East has always been their favorite. Two of their most liked destinations in Middle East are UAE, which has 2.9 million Indian migrants, and Saudi Arabia which has 1.8 million.

However, currently, there is a slight change in the number of Indian migrants to the Middle East as most Indians are now heading to the US. The year 2013 witnessed 2.1 million Indians fleeing to the US, which also attracted 2.2 million Chinese and 2 million people from the Philippines.

The report compiled by UN-DESA stated that since the year 2000, the number of migrants from India and China living in the United States had seen a twofold increase, whereas the number of Mexican foreign-born had only 31percent rise.
