India Among World's Poorest Countries


BANGALORE: The world is as rich as poor. While the world enthralls with the joys of being developed and utilizing technologies to usher in growth and open minds; it still gives shelter to poor unfortunate sections spread across the world. It’s time we get to know the countries in the world sheltering nearly two thirds of the extreme poor lived in these five countries in 2010, according to The Millennium Development Goals Report 2014. India is known for its diversified culture and vibrant traditions.

It has long been considered as the golden bird with abundant wealth and prosperity. The rising economy in recent years and change in government has given it hope to revive its condition, mainly on the poverty front.

India ranks first in the list of the poorest countries. India has the largest share with 32.9 percent, and in 2010 one third of the world’s 1.2 billion extreme poor were living in India.

India has majority of young population, and though the government is working towards more growth and development prospects; the major population struggles to gather a day’s living.

Mumbai holds the largest slum area and many other states like Chhattisgarh, Bihar, Uttar Pradesh are few among the long list, which shelters the poor living in the country.
