IRCTC Gives Kashmir a Facelift through Glass-Top Train Coaches


BENGALURU: Before planning a holiday itinerary, a list of numerous places flashes our mind. However the list only gets complete if Kashmir- the “paradise on earth” gets a mention. But while travelling to Kashmir valley in trains, looking outside the beautiful and mesmerizing plains seem impossible, as the freezing cold temperature makes one even not to sit close to the window seat. But worry not; the Indian Railways has come up with a desirable solution with the new Glass-top train coaches; exactly the ones you find in English movies.

According to The Economic Times, the Glass-top train coaches are equipped with a luxurious infotainment systems and glass ceiling. Being one of the most visited tourist places in the country, the basic objective of the newly built special coaches is to promote tourism and upscale tourists from India and around the world. Considering the coaches, the first coach is all set to tag in a regular train mobbing from Kashmir valley while the other coaches will be included in the train moving towards Araku valley in Visakhapatnam.

The joint design by the Indian Railway Corporation and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) and Research, Designs and Standards Organizations (RDSO) along with the Integral Coach Factory at Perambur, is expected to be functioning by the end of this year.

Looking into the structure in detail, the train is designed keeping the luxury of the tourists in mind with ample leg space and will be equipped with modern infotainment systems. The project cost is estimated at Rs 4 crore with a plan to revive the existing transport system.
