How Socially Conscious are Young Indians?

BANGALORE: ‘’I am a revolution. And revolutionary is what my successors will learn. I am a prodigy of the rule-benders. I am one. And I am one too many.’’

And so goes the ‘youth rap’ of MTV Power of One- Youth marketing forum. This year, MTV conducted one of the largest youth studies on the millennial generation. Over 5000 youngsters from across 31 cities took part in the study. The revelation has been nothing short of astonishing. The study indicates a growing need among the youth to both prove themselves and bring about a positive change in the world. They are ambitious but they are also socially responsible.  They are not scared to voice their opinion or take a stand. They have an independent mind that dares to think differently. They are brimming with confidence. And, they are all set to take charge and ride the wave of change. Here are some of the key findings of the study:

98 percent of the youth believe that they have what it takes to bring about a positive change. At a time when the world is fraught with challenges such as Global warming, corruption and terrorism; this comes as a welcome finding.

42 percent of the youngsters asserted that they would actively participate and fight for a cause they believe in. In fact 95 percent of them believe that they are more empowered today than ever before in the past.
