From Vegetable man to Crorepati: Kripashankar Singh


Bangalore: A slew of posh bungalows and flats, BMWs, bullets, details of unaccounted high-value transactions, large levels of tax evasion and huge amounts of unaccounted wealth – the IT sleuths could find a lot more from Former Mumbai Congress Chief vendor Kripashankar Singh, once a vegetable seller.

The senior congress leader is investigated in relation to an alleged 320 crore disproportionate assets case. According to a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) filed by Sanjay Tiwari, Kripashankar and his family has amassed wealth worth 320 crore, which also alleges that the Congress veteran received large sums from former Jharkhand chief minister Madhu Koda. The Bombay High Court on February 22 directed the Mumbai police chief Arup Patnaik to file an FIR against him and to attach properties belonging to him and his family. The police chief is to submit a status a detailed report to the court by April 19.

Kripashankar’s son Narendra Mohan, once a Jet Airways pilot, owns a duplex bungalow at Carter Road in Bandra, another duplex flat and an under-construction triplex flat in Bandra, a BMW car, assets worth 9 Crores and crores of ruppes as bank loans. However, it was revealed that he mostly worked as a ground staff in Jet and his earnings from the profession can never add up so much of wealth for him. According to some other reports, his account with Samata Sahakari Bank had a turnover of Rs 60 crore between 2007 and 2009. The raiding team also uncovered nearly 400 bullets and two licensed revolvers from his houses. The IT department has also found that Kripashankar's wife, Maltidevi with no known source of income, has earned at least 2.6 crore in four years.
