From Micronesia to South Sudan: New Born Nations in The World


BANGALORE: After the two devastating World Wars, many countries, especially of Asia, Africa and Latin America resorted to Civil wars and Independence movements. Haiti was the first black republic in the world to first nation in the western hemisphere to completely abolish slavery, back in 1804. For those who are unaware of such freedom struggles across the world, India could be the most familiar example.

Such struggles for Independence go on till today the latest being in Scotland. Scotland, part of the United Kingdom carries a long history of Independent aspirations, which is generally regarded to have started from the year 843. The Oil-rich Scotland Government hopes to write a new history putting behind the long 307 years of Union, which according to its leader Alex Salmond is no longer fit for the purpose.

Though the referendum held on 19th September was against independence, it fairly proved that 43 percent Scottish hope for separation from the United Kingdom. However there is still an upbeat in the words of Salmond who said “For Scotland the campaign is not over and the dream will never die”. The world awaits the consequences.
