Trash2Cash, Bhungroo and two other initiatives which are early food warning systems in the Himalayan region have been selected. India is never really short of waste and so it gives the opportunity for waste management to be optimally done. Trash2Cash, a Kolkata-based initiative which has found a way to convert trash into cash by providing a solution for solid waste problems in urban areas, is one of the projects that made it to the final 12 for the Momentum for Change awards. And Trash2Cash turned out to be the most successful as it worked wonders.

Kolkata generates more than 5,000 tons of solid waste each day. Considering the huge amount of waste generated solid waste Kolkata's solid waste has ended up polluting the ground water and emitting large amounts of methane, a gas that is 25 times more potent than carbon dioxide in trapping heat.
