FIFA World Cup: Five Memorable Semi Finals


BANGALORE: International FIFA was founded in 1930. Till 2014 many exciting and nail biting matches are played. The current Champaign is Spain and Brazil, which is also the host of 2014 FIFA World Cup, holds the record of most successful team by winning five world cups. Brazil reached semifinals 10 times.

In FIFA 2014, semi finals will be held on 8 July and 9 July. First match will be played between Brazil and Germany and the second semi final will be played between Netherlands and Argentina.

Let us have a look on five memorable semifinal matches that left a mark on the minds of football fans in the history of FIFA.

24 June 1952: Brazil vs. France in Stockholm

Brazil reached semifinal after the win over Wales by 1-0 in quarter final. Pele’s fame started spreading all over the world after the win in quarter-finals.

Right in the second minute Vava made a goal and Brazil was leading. Just after seven minutes Fontaine also made a goal and the match was with equal scores. Finally, just six minutes before the half-time Waldyr Pereira, famously known as Didi, kicked a goal and Brazil was in front again creating pressure over France.

Like a star Pele scored three continuous goals in just 23 minutes. The score was 5-1 and Roger Piantoni scored the last goal for France. The match ended with a score of 5-2 and Brazil entered the finals.

Brazil won the world cup against Sweden with the score of 5-2 again. And this time Pele scored two goals.
