Dinesh Trivedi Sends Resignation to PM

New Delhi:: Railway Minister Dinesh Trivedi has sent his resignation letter to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, ministry sources said Thursday, a day after the minister presented his railway budget in parliament. "Dinesh Trivedi has sent his resignation letter to PM. No decision on it has been taken so far," ministry sources said. Mukul Roy, minister of state for shipping and Trivedi's Trinamool Congress colleague, also reached New Delhi Thursday, fuelling speculation that he could be the next railway minister. Trivedi had been summoned by Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee late Wednesday after he made defiant statements disregarding the party's diktat that he roll-back the rail tariff hike. Trivedi's budget had proposed to hike fares for the first time in 10 years. "Trivedi has been summoned to Kolkata. Whether he will go or not is not known," TMC party sources said.
