Diffuse Bombs Almost Every Day: Do They Get What They Deserve?

BANGALORE: How fascinating it is to watch a Bomb detection and disposal squad disposing a bomb in movies? As the job looks heroic it takes a lot of courage to play with the life threatening weapons. A large number of Police Bomb Detection and disposal(BDDS) are dedicating their lives and limbs for protecting all of us but are not rewarded with what they deserve, Reports Indiatimes.

Most of the BDDS personals recruited by government are Ex-Amy officers and are serving as irregular staffs and getting a low salary. They work without any special benefits, retirement and pensions. The worst scenario is that they are not even provided with a life cover. Even the families of the squad men who die on duty are not provided with special benefits.

The recruitments are of constables, sub-inspectors and inspectors who earn 5,300, 8,500 and 11,000 respectively. Most of them hardly get leave and the weekly off they are allotted with. They are put on to work for almost 16 hours a day when it is a tight schedule.

A BDDS officer stated that, "All of us appointed as are ex-Army men. We have been struggling to get confirmed for several years. We have made representations detailing our plight to the directors general of police and bureaucrats but they have taken no action. When we attempted to stage protest in February, police commissioner S George met us and promised to resolve the issue batch by batch within a month. But nothing has been done so far. We suspect our petitions do not reach the chief minister because she is aware of the job we do and appreciates our work,"
