Child Adoption: Indian Children Find Home In U.S.

Bangalore: Adoption process for kids began in India years back, but the adoption of kids by NRI’s (Non-Resident Indians) began three years back. According to the ministry of women and child development data, it has been observed that Indian children, who are up for adoption, have mostly found home in the United States, followed by countries like Italy and Spain. To fulfill parental dreams, NRIs have adopted total of over 308 babies last year, shows statistics presented by the ministry, reports Madhavi Rajadhyaksha of TNN.

In India, several children are being abandoned each year and then moved to some orphanage where most of their needs are taken care of. Some of these kids are adopted by couples who are keen to become parents. But from a recent survey done in India, many of the kids are not adopted by Indians but instead they are adopted by overseas couples. There are many reasons behind this; one reason might be because Indian agencies give more preference to abroad citizens for adopting children due to which Indians waiting to adopt Indian kids are always found in the waiting list.
