Bangalore City Body Is All Set Use Technology for Waste Management

BANGALORE: Over the years the garden city has emerged as the business hotspot in the country. With the increase in the technology sector the population is also increasing rapidly. Currently Bangalore city consist about 10 million civilians. Thus waste management is a major concern for the city civic body in the current scenario. It is said that the amount of garbage generated on a daily basis is 4,000 plus tones. Thus the city civic body is all set to bring in technology help to manage the garbage, reports K R Blasubhramanyam of Economic Times.

The government is planning to set up a biometric entry for keeping a track of garbage pickers who are employed with them. The irregular visit of workers also causes a major setback in the day to day dispose of the garbage. The BBMP is also planning to attach a GPS on the trucks as it can monitor their each move. As the garbage has increased in tons the government has already set up seven processing units with a capacity of 1,800 ton but the private firms are also active with the capacity of almost 2,000 tons a day.

According to Kalpana Kar, member of the government's expert committee, "The BBMP will run a data con -trol room and use technology from estimating garbage generation to planning its disposal through use of GIS for route mapping, GPS enabled vehicles for tracking movements and analysis of waste stream processing to maximize value creation. The BBMP is planning to invest in a waste control room dedicated to big data mining for analytics in order to plan ahead and do corrective intervention for short-term and long-term results."
