Asian Games 2014: India's High Medal Hope Athletes

BANGALORE: As the most awaited sporting event Asian Games in Incheon is just some days away, here are Indian sports personalities with high medal prospects, as compiled by The Times of India.

MC Mary Kom:

A five- time world champion, Mangte Chungneijang Mary Kom  who won the Bronze Medal at the London Olympic Games is now all set to punch her way for another triumph in the upcoming Asian Games at the Incheon.

The mother-of-three has created a history for being the first Indian Women Boxer to have won an individual medal in the Olympics.  Kom became only the second Indian boxer after Vijender Singh to win an Olympic medal. Vijender got a bronze in Beijing four years ago. She lost to Great Britain's Nicola Adams in a high-voltage semi-final.

Mary Kom's journey to the top of women's world boxing has been a tough one. With all she has done for the sport, very few people have acknowledged her feats. Motivated by famous Manipuri boxer Dingko Singh, an Asian Games gold medalist, Mary Kom gave up books for boxing gloves. But she had to hide her interests from her family. All that changed after her success in the Manipur state women's boxing championship in 2000. Despite all the social taboo and hindrance Mary has fought all her way to the top.
