A Software To Clean Up Voters List, Created By A Retired Engineer

BENGALURU: When should some directly contribute to the Society, Is it when you are young or mid in career or retired? Well most of us might say; it is before 30 years. But this article speaks about man who has set an example, for those who believe that retirement is a time to just relax.

In order to spread awareness of voting among the people, PG Bhatt, a retired employee of Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) used his retirement time and setup a Non Profitable Organization (NGO) called ‘Smart Votes’ in 2009. But in the course of running the NGO, Bhatt came through various flaws in voting system and the major deject was fake Voter IDs, which can lead to fake voting.

In account of finding solution to this problem, Bhatt developed software which actually can detect the fake IDs in the Voters list. Subsequently the software was fed with complete list of voter IDs and surprisingly the Bhatt’s software detected more number of problems than the system that is adopted by the local election office.

But as expected by Bhatt, the Karnataka Government discarded to replace its verification software by Bhatt’s new software, claiming that the present software is efficient enough to detect all the fake IDs in list.

Butt is a green lover who spends his day time in gardening and spares his night time for developing his software to make it more effective in detecting errors in the voter list.
