7 Indians Who Are Conferred With The Asia's Highest Honour


BENGALURU: The Ramon Magsaysay Award (RMA), which is the Asian equivalent to Noble Prize, has announced its final list of winners, featuring two Indians Sanjeev Chaturvedi and Anshu Gupta among three other winners from Asia. The Ramon Magsaysay Award was found in 1957 by the trustees Rockefeller Brothers Fund with the cooperation from Philippine Government, to honor the individuals who have achieved excellence in their respective fields. The RMA is given in the name of Philippine’s former President Ramon Magsaysay, to carry on his example of integrity in governance, courageous service to the people, and pragmatic idealism within a democratic society

From the inception of RMA, Indians have been featured in the winning nominees several times and here goes the list of top 7 among them

Vinoba Bhave

Vinoba Bhave, warmly known as the ‘National Teacher of India,’ Bhave was an advocate and a human rights activist, who actively took part in Indian independence movement along with Mahatma Gandhi. He is widely acclaimed for his Bhoodan Movement. Apparently for his remarkable contributions towards human rights and spiritualism, Bhave received RMA in 1958 and was honored with the India’s highest civilian award Bharat Ratna in 1983.
