63 Indian, Pak Spies Arrested

Bangalore: Over the past three years, nearly 14 Pakistani spies were either imprisoned or neutralized in various parts across India, according to the government. Apart from 14 Pakistani spies, 49 Indians were also caught for spying during the same period, making the total of 63 agents who were found convicted for such activities.

In this context, Minister of state for Home Jitendra Prasad replied that "Out of 63 agents, 53 were neutralised in the border states (Rajasthan-9, Himachal Pradesh-3, Uttar Pradesh-5, Punjab-24, Jammu and Kashmir-1, Maharashtra-1, Tripura-2, Bihar-1 and Uttarakhand-3). Among them, 49 were Indians and 14 Pakistani nationals," reports The Times of India.

According to Prasad, 26 such agents were caught in the year 2009, 18 were caught in 2008, 14 agents in 2011 and 5 were arrested this year between January and August 20th. He further added that "Out of the 63 arrested agents, three were found to have been involved in criminal activities such as being in possession of illegal arms and Fake Indian Currency Notes," reports TOI.

Nevertheless, a well-coordinated and multi-pronged attempt has been made by government to deal with spying activities that include intensification of border management to track illegal cross border acts, strengthening of state and central intelligence machinery and improvement in police and security forces armed with advanced weapons and well communication system, said Prasad.
