The Facebook Girls From Palghar
The Facebook post commenting over the bandh on the death of the Shiv Sena leader Bal Thackeray by the 21 year old Shaheen Dhada, which was ‘liked’ by Rinu Srinivasan, another 21 year old from Palghar, Maharashtra led to their arrest. It created turbulence in the nation. The girls were arrested over the charge of sedition for posting and liking the comment that was considered illicit. Although they were acquitted after suffering a lot of humiliation, the country and media defended these girls for their post and the rogue actions taken by the police and Shiv Sainiks in this matter. Over the internet there are mixed messages, however it is one of the most sensational incidents that took the internet by storm in 2012.
