6 Indian Metro Cities with Highest Literacy Rate


Bangalore: The power of knowledge and the possibilities of learning can only be appreciated by those who are deprived of this gift. As per the 2011 population Census of India the current literacy rate in the country is 74.04 percent. It’s a positive trend as it shows an increase of 9 percent from 65.38 percent since 2001. Mumbai
Mumbai is on the first place with a literacy rate of 91 percent among the other major cities. It’s the most populated city of India with a total population of 20.5 million making it the fourth most crowded city globally. The city has started government educational programs as Shiksha Abhiyan which has raised the rate of literacy in the city. Mumbai being the commercial and film capital of India is a global financial center and is among the top ten cities in the world for trade and commerce. It is also a secular state and provides equal rights to education to all which is one for the fundamental rights to every Indian citizen.
The Government has implemented these programs to provide education for all, wihich provide free education to the poor and the underprivileged. Even national movements like teach for India has taken the responsibility to provide better education to the lower strata of Indian society, an initiative of ‘Teach To Lead’ where many college graduates and young professional join to eradicate the social drawback of illiteracy.
