Kolkata student leader's death a 'petty matter': Mamata Banerjee
The recent incident of death of the Students Federation of India (SFI) member, Sudipto Gupta raged the nation. Gupta was allegedly beaten repeatedly on the head by the police when they arrested a group of activists protesting against West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee's decision to postpone college union elections. Banerjee who manages to make headlines for her statements created a controversy when she said that the young activist's death was a "petty matter" and no reason for students in Kolkata to protest over. She was quoted by NDTV, saying, "It is a petty matter. It was an accident. It's very unfortunate. It is not police assault."
