36 Pct Indian Cos and MNCs not amenable of Sexual Harassment Act


BENGALURU: Sexual harassment against women has been highly discussed topic lately from past 2 years in the country, relatively domestic violence and rapes are consistently featured in the headlines. But the new might panic the young female graduates, who are about to step into the professional world and alarm the female working professionals across the country.

As per the reports of ET, the sexual harassment at work places in the country has seen a drastic incline and study conducted by the FICCI – EY says that 36 percent of Indian companies and 25percent among MNCs are not compliant with the Sexual Harassment Act 2013.

According to the report, the rate of sexual harassments have increased by twofold in last two years; 2013 report suggested that, 249 sexual harassment complaints at work place were reported and 526 similar complaints were reported in 2014.

'Fostering Safe Workplaces' is name of the report that was jointly completed by the FICCI – EY to promote the safety of women and bring lights on the undisclosed sexual harassment cases at the work places. The report also shows the amount of dilemma that Indian have towards the pertaining issue.

In order to curb such happenings, the government had passed Harassment of Women at Workplace (Prevention, Prohibition and Redressal) Act in 2013, in order to ensure the women safety and transparency in course of court trails. But since the report shows that 31 percent of the respondents have not compliant with the Act, lack of awareness among the people of the respective act is highlighted,
