2G Case Most Complicated in my Tenure, Says CBI Director

New Delhi: Outgoing Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) director Amar Pratap Singh said the 2G spectrum allocation case was the biggest and the most complicated in the two years of his tenure.

"I had to handle several cases including the 2G scam, Commonwealth Games case, Tatra BEML scam, Adarsh Society scam and coal block allocation scam against high-profiled accused. Among them, 2G spectrum allocation scam was the biggest in terms of its complications," Singh said reporters.

Singh, who retires Nov 30 after a two-year tenure as CBI director, said he could not ascribe any loss figure to the 2G row.

He said he described the 2G as the biggest case not because of the monetary figure involved but the complications and the monitoring by the Supreme Court.

Talking about the figures in the 2G case chargesheet, Singh said the CBI arrived at the notional figure of 30,000 crore as it was 3.5 times the indexed 2G spectrum allocation price of 2001.

"Despite such a huge figure, we had not termed it a loss. It was a notional figure that this could have been the price," Singh said.

The CBI chief also added that while taking charge of the agency two years ago, he had said the probe agency would not hesitate to take action against anybody.

He said under his tenure, the CBI tried to be transparent.

"We have attempted to be as transparent and open in the functioning. In the two years we have by and large tried to keep these commitments. My tenure was marked by complex specialised high-profile investigations to probe corruption and crime," he added.

"These comments were made in the backdrop of the impending actions in the 2G and Adarsh and CWG (Commonwealth Games) cases against high profile accused," he said.
