1993 Mumbai Blast Prime Accused who Supplied RDX Captured


BENGALURU: Abdul Sattar Batliwala, 60 has been held as one of the prime suspect accused by Gujarat Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS) in the Gosabara arms and RDX landing case of 1993. It’s been 23 years, since the occurrence of the infamous Mumbai serial bombings and the man behind the chaos was leading a royal life in Bandra West colony, as reported by TOI.

He was dragged out of his apartment late Saturday night by a team of ATS member, alleging his involvement in the Mumbai serial blasts. The serial blasts took away more than 250 innocent lives. It is alleged that Abdul Sattar was present at the meeting held by Dawood Ibrahim and his brother, Anis, few days before the Mumbai serial blasts.

Batiwala was held while he was passing through Khar in his vehicle by ATS team led by the Deputy Superintendent of Police, B.A. Chavda. According to the ATS officials, a plan was laid out few months earlier to the blast to smuggle explosives and arms to take revenge for the death of Muslims in Babir Masjid conflict in Ayodhya. He was later moved forward to Jamanagar police for further inquiry.

Batliwala is based out of Nanded located in Maharashtra and was running a hotel and furniture business. He was living a luxurious life having some great Bollywood and cricket stars as his neighbors.    

He is also accused for involvement in the gold and silver smuggling since 1985 and was even captured by the Gujarat customs department in 1987 for smuggling around 254 silver plates. Later on, he joined D Gang’s smuggling syndicate that included Mustufa Majnu, Mohammed Dosa and a key accused of the 1993 Mumbai serial blasts, Tiger Memon.
