17 Equations That Brought A Change!

Bangalore: If you love studying people you would be sure of the fact that half the world’s population consists of non math lovers, but you also need to know that math has made its own contribution in making a change in the world.

Let’s now take a look at the 17 math equations that have changed the world.

The Pythagorean Theorem : First proven by Euclid, this theorem is now attributed to Pythagoras. However studies show that this theorem was found 1000 years before Pythagoras.  The square of a hypotenuse is always equal to the sum of the squares of its other two lines.

Thanks to Euclid, this theorem has been helpful in various fields of mathematics like geometry, algebra and trigonometry. It has helped in accurate surveying, mapmaking and navigation over the years. Today it is popular in triangulation where it is used in pinpointing the relative location of GPS navigation.

Logarithm: Numbers can be multiplied by adding two related numbers.

8x+8y = 8xy

This was first discovered by Laird John Napier. It was discovered to help in the multiplication of large numbers. With time, this method got easier and faster and was further refined by Henry Briggs. This made it more useful for calculation in reference tables. Today though it is less important to the computer age, this method is very useful  in the understanding of radioactive decay.

Ever since its discovery, Logarithms have always been useful to engineers and astronomers by providing faster and more accurate calculations.
