15 Most Interesting lost Pieces of Technologies

BENGALURU: The world has never been more technologically advanced than it is now, but that doesn’t mean that few things haven’t been lost along the way. Many of the technologies, inventions, and manufacturing processes of antiquity have simply disappeared with the passage of time, while others are still not fully understood by modern day scientists. Some have since been rediscovered, but many of the more lost technologies have gone on to become the stuff of legend.

Let us have a look at some of the most interesting lost pieces of technologies.

Apollo 11: The Computers that Put Man on the Moon

It is hard to appreciate the technical challenges involved in putting a man on the moon, but 1960s computer technology played a fundamental role. In the 1960s, our national pride and very existence depended on showing our rivals what we could conquer moon. $20 billion (in 1960 dollars) and the cold war fears in the 1960s got us there. If we want to go the moon again, we have to make a rocket from scratch.

The Elusive Damascus Steel

For 2,000 years, the finest steel in the world was known as Damascus steel, which was known for its distinctive patterns, extreme toughness, and ability to be honed to the sharpest of edges. Unfortunately, the technique of producing wootz Damascus steel blades is a lost art. The date of the last blades produced with the highest-quality damascene patterns is uncertain, but is probably around 1750; it is unlikely that blades displaying low-quality damascene patterns were produced later than the early 19th century.

Intelligence of Joining Keel to the Hull of a Wooden Ship

Most of the ships made today use metal hulls and keels that are machined and wielded in factories. But a century ago, shipbuilders built ships entirely out of wood. And this technology of joining the keel and the hull has been lost since then.
