13 Ministers In Modi's Cabinet Who Are Facing Criminal Cases

BANGALORE: Delivering a strong message that people against whom criminal and corruption charges have been framed to not be inducted as ministers, the Supreme Court said Prime Minister and Chief Ministers should desist from making such appointments and act in "national interest."

Observing that it cannot add disqualification in article 75 (1) (appointment of PM and Council of Ministers), the bench, however, said that the PM and CMs should not consider people with criminal antecedents.

However, based on the elections affidavits, at least 13 ministers in Modi's extended council of ministers have criminal cases against them. Let us check out the names of those ministers as compiled by IndiaTV.

Uma Bharti:

Former Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Uma Bharti is Union Minister for Water Resources, River Development and Ganga Rejuvenation in Modi’s cabinet. A firebrand leader and Hindutva mascot, Uma Bharti has always hogged the limelight in her political career.

Bharti came to prominence during the Ayodhya Ram Janmabhoomi movement. She had served as Minister both in the state of Madhya Pradesh and as Union Minister in the Cabinet.

At present, Bharti is facing a total of 13 cases. Out of which, 6 cases relate to riots while 2 cases relate to murder. Charges of rioting and promoting enmity between different groups in Ayodhya are among the 13 cases pending against the BJP leader.
