10 Indian States with Longest National Highways

Bangalore: National Highways are one of the major means of connecting interstate transports in India. Considering all roads, only 2 percentages of roads comprise national highways in India and 40 percentage of our total road traffic is passed through these roads as per the calculations in 2010. Our highways are growing steadily under the National Highway development project which has been going on for more than a decade now. The project aims at Highways development through 7 phases. Only 1 phase has been fully completed yet and other phases are going through construction and identifying processes. By August 2011 70,934 km of national highways that connect all major cities in India were identified.

Utter Pradesh:

Utter Pradesh comes at the top in the list by carrying 6,788km of National Highways as per NAHI website. National highway 2 which runs from Haryana border to Bihar border is the longest highway (752 km) in Utter Pradesh. This high way is one of the busiest highways in India since it passes through the states of Delhi, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand, and West Bengal. Even the Longest National highway number 7 passes through this state. Another major one among the national highways is national highway 28 which connects Lucknow in Uttar Pradesh to Barauni in Bihar.

Rajasthan:

Rajasthan has a total length of 6,373 km of national highways and comes at second on the list. India's first 4–8 lane highway NH 8 which links New Delhi with Mumbai goes mainly through Rajasthan. In Rajasthan, it extends from the Haryana Border to Gujarat Border with the length of 688 km. The longest in Rajasthan is the NH15 that lengthens from Punjab border to Gujarat border in Rajasthan. National Highway 11 is the other major highway in Rajasthan.  This highway joins Agra in Uttar Pradesh with Bikaner in Rajasthan. The major part of this highway lies in Rajasthan and it is one of the major tourism Highways in India.
