10 Indian States With Longest Highways


BANGALORE: India’s National Highways form just 2 per cent of the country’s road network but carry a huge burden of about 40 per cent of the total road traffic. Highways are the lifelines of a state, which connect district headquarters and important towns within the state and also National Highways of the neighboring states.

India, with the world’s second largest road network, has National Highways which cover a distance of 79,243 kms. While State Highways stretch to a distance of 131,899 kms, major district roads cover a distance of 4,67,763 kms.

1. Uttar Pradesh

Utter Pradesh comes at the top in the list with a length of 7863 kms which is considered to be the largest. National highway 2 which runs from Haryana border to Bihar border is the longest highway (752 km) in Utter Pradesh. This high way is one of the busiest highways in India since it passes through the states of Delhi, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand, and West Bengal.

Even the Longest National highway number 7 passes through this state. Another major one among the national highways is national highway 28 which connects Lucknow in Uttar Pradesh to Barauni in Bihar.
