Twitter is the Latest to Join Linux Foundation


Bangalore: The Linux Foundation, an organization committed in the overall growth of Linux and its operating systems, has announced that social networking giant; Twitter is the latest to join their society.

Along with Twitter, Inktank and Servergy have also joined the organization, announced the establishment.

“Linux and its ability to be heavily tweaked is fundamental to our technology infrastructure,” Chris Aniszczyk, manager of open source at Twitter said. “By joining The Linux Foundation, we can support an organization that is important to us and collaborate with a community that is advancing Linux as fast as we are improving Twitter.”

With the overall increase in importance of big data- especially the need of real-time data throughout companies, organizations are now more keen on using Linux supported information and data which means better efficiency, along with low cost and low-energy server farms to support massive data and traffic. Not only big time organizations, but social networking firms like Twitter also need the support of Linux, because of their real-time services like comments, posts and news.

According to a recent report released by the Linux Foundation, over 72 percent of users are ready to shift their services and support to Linux servers in the next 12 months, which is double than the total count of users who are planning to shift into Windows Servers.
