Bangalore: Indian IT major Infosys has agreed to pay up $32 million in a civil settlement after the federal prosecutors in Texas found the company had committed “systemic visa fraud and abuse” in temporary immigration of the employees for jobs in U.S. businesses. The settlement is said to be biggest fine of its kind ever in the history of the country, reports NY Times.

After an investigation lasting for two years, the prosecutors are to unveil on Wednesday the settlement as well as the accusation that Infosys "knowingly and unlawfully" brought Indian workers into the United States on business visitor visas since 2008. They also accused the company for using B-1 visas instead of harder-to-get H-1B work visas to bring an unknown number of staff for long-term stays and that it unfairly gained a competitive edge, undercutting American workers qualified for the jobs.
