India World's Best Outsourcing Destination

Bangalore: India remains a favourite backoffice of the world, and has emerged as the global leader in the outsourcing industry with half of the world's back office being located here. Surprisingly, India accounts for 51% of the global offshore market and generated outsourcing revenue of $59 billion in the year 2011 reveals a study from Tholons Research, a Bangalore based advisory firm.

Earlier in Feb global management consulting firm AT Kearney also ranked India as ‘World’s Best Outsourcing Destination.’  AT Kearney’s 2011 Global Services Location Index (GSLI) said that India has “remarkable staying power, thanks to their deep talent pools and cost advantages.”

Whereas the Tholons Research report notes that over the past decade, developing economies such as India and the Philippines have propelled themselves to become leaders in the global outsourcing industry - making them the top two countries in terms of global offshore revenue share and employment. The total direct employment by Indian IT-BPO sector (as of 2011) was 1.98 million and indirect employment was 7.5 million reports The Economic Times.

“India is the all-around standout, able to provide manpower for any type of offshoring activity. With its first-mover advantage and deep skill base, it still maintains the lion’s share of the IT services market,” AT Kearney’s GLSI report said.

“With its first-mover advantage and deep skill base, India remains the unquestioned leader in the index, on top of that, India’s IT services stalwarts are moving up the value chain,” the report said, adding that companies such as Infosys and Wipro are developing their R&D capabilities and expanding well beyond their traditional vendor roles
