India Ranked Second Among Spam-Sending Countries: Trend Micro

Bangalore: Over the years, India's Internet base may have swelled, but so are the online risks. Nearly, 7.70 percent of spam was being sent from India, and the country has ranked second in the list of spam sending countries, reports Times Of India.

As per the recent report by IT Security Company Trend Micro, reports suggest that 1.75 percent of the computer users in India were accessing Botnet connected servers and the Android users from India are prone to risks of privacy exposure by downloading fake versions of popular apps.

"Countries at a high risk of downloading malicious apps included Asia, Myanmar and India. India stands fifth with 34.94 percent for downloading battery draining app volumes," said Trend Micro in a statement.

And according to Amit Nath, country manager, India and Saarc, Trend Micro, "Fake apps remained a significant mobile threat in this quarter. Malicious apps that belong to the FAKEINST and OPFAKE families are known for imitating popular apps to lure users into downloading them. Android users from India are acutely exposed to the risk of privacy exposure. This might have been due to the fact that almost all of the mobile users in the country take notice of mobile ads, which could have prompted dubious developers to create apps with aggressive advertising features."

However, Trend Micro also found that India is showing improvements in curbing the malware such as banking Trojans and spam botnets. In the earlier reports, India's share in the global spam statistics was at alarming 12 percent and topped the list as the most spam-sending nation in the world.
