Importance of Governance On Agility Software Development

Bangalore: IBM hosted a pre-event session before its annual three day event Innovate 2012 this month to promote the importance of governance on agility software development. The sole purpose of the event was to introduce ‘the need for speed: agility with governance.’
The pre-event hosted by IBM emphasizing on the same was chaired by Harish Grama, VP, Product Development, IBM Rational and Gina Poole, VP, Rational Marketing, IBM Software.
Grama, in his speech highlighted the changing trends in the IT industry and how they are affecting the practices that were being carried out in the field of software development. He also shared his insights on how various market dynamics have positive and negative impacts on the market. For instance, increased globalization though opens doors to infinite opportunities but also complicates the process of collaboration on a global platform. Thus, all of these dynamics need to be covered by ensuring accelerated delivery. He lent his thoughts to the idea of accelerating the delivery to avoid these backlogs that certain market dynamics carry along. His idea was to ensure that the developer understands the need of agile development and the management governs these developments and empowers its workforce by integrating, collaborating and optimizing on a regular basis. When asked about his thoughts on the concerns regarding the emerging trend of cloud computing, he said, “It has never happened that a newly introduced technology has had its share of doubts being casted upon them”, he added, “Cloud is not a completely new technology, it has been there for a long time now and it is the rebranding that is showing cloud in a new light.” He also stated that it is possible that at some point of time people might discover glitches in the cloud technology but this not stop us from adopting a technology that will revolutionize our experience with computers.
Also present in the conference, Poole shed light on the importance of skill development. She also spoke about IBM’s efforts in developing skills. She mentioned about the Great Mind Challenge and certain other events that IBM is conducting to develop skills across the globe.
