Hard Drive Market Makes a 'Full-Recovery': IHS

Bangalore: The flood in Thailand had hit the hard-drive industry forcing the HDD-industry to suffer huge losses in recent quarters. But with time passing, things are looking to come back in shape.

The market intelligence firm HIS iSuppli has reported that the hard-drive markets across the globe has recovered completely from the debacle they faced in the recent times. It further said that the recovery has not just been complete but has reached record levels.

The analysts at IHS reported that HDD shipments are expected to reach 524 million units by the end of 2012. The figures represent a 4.3 percent increase from last year’s sales metrics.

The HDD industry showed signs of recovery in the month of August when nearly 157 million units were shipped in a single month.

The hard-drive maestro, Western Digital has shown the fastest signs of recovery taking the number one spot with 71 million units produced in the second quarter while its arch rival Seagate being a close second.
