HP Set to Compete Amazon and Microsoft in the Cloud

Bangalore: HP is all geared up to take its cloud business to new heights in coming two months. This is the time limit given by the company a senior executive of HP told New York Times. HP is already in the cloud market since September 2011, but only with its private beta. But when it will be venturing in a big way in 2012 in the cloud business it will be lagging behind as compared to other key players like Amazon, RackSpace, IBM, Microsoft, Google and others but as the saying goes better late than never reports Julie Bort in Business Insider.

Zorawar “Biri” Singh, senior vice president and general manager of H.P.’s cloud services explained how HP plans to compete with others. He said that the company does not plan to beat about beating Amazon or others on price which is very difficult to do at this stage infact Amazon recently cut down prices of its cloud service which can be used at a minimal price of 2 cents per hour.

Singh says instead HP will be targeting the Big Data sector, by including structured and unstructured databases and data analytics as a service. When it comes to database options Amazon offers multiple options and recently announced an unstructured "noSQL" database as a service, too. IBM offers various options of analytics in its cloud service.

Considering the above options that companies are offering HP has taken the initiative offer a bunch of software languages through its cloud like Ruby, Java, and PHP -- making it go head-to-head with clouds offered by Google, Microsoft and lots of others, such as Salesforce.com's Heroku.

Despite the fact that HP’s entry into the cloud is late it can still go places with its cloud business, as the company has strong clientele list, huge customers of its servers and network gear it will be added advantage.
