Google Was Willing To Pay $7Billion More for Motorola

Bangalore: According to the report filed yesterday, claims CNET, Google was willing to pay an additional sum of $7 billion for getting its hands on the patents owned by Motorola Mobility.

Google has revealed that it had paid a whopping sum of $12.4 billion during the acquisition of Motorola Mobility that was announced last year.

The search engine giant has submitted its report to the Securities and Exchange Commission revealing how it estimated its $12.4 billion purchase of Motorola mobility. According to Google the purchase price was categorized as,

            1. $2.9 billion for Motorola’s cash

            2. $730 million for customer relationships

            3. $670 million for other net assets

            4. $5.5 billion for patents and developed technologies

            5. $2.6 billion for goodwill/company’s value above and beyond its assets

Google said in its statements that the main reason for acquiring Motorola mobility was to add to its portfolio hundreds and thousands of patents and patent applications that Motorola had possession of. It knew that acquiring the patents and the technology from Motorola will prove most beneficial in luring the investors.

Last week, Google for the first time included Motorola’s performance statistics in its quarterly financials. It has been said that the newly acquired Motorola mobility has contributed nearly 10 percent to Google’s consolidated revenue. The report says that of the $1.25 billion contributed by Motorola, $843 million came from its mobile business and the other $407 million came from the business unit that builds set-top boxes for home.

Google has still not revealed as how it plans to use Motorola keeping the plans under the wraps. Though it has said that it will let Motorola continue working as an independent unit.
