DRDO Chief Calls For Turning Waste Into Useful Products

HYDERABAD: Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) chief Avinash Chander Thursday called for turning waste into useful products through affordable technologies.

"If we can convert millions of tonnes of waste in the country into useful tangible products by affordable technological means, there is a huge scope for development," said Avinash Chander, who is also scientific advisor to defence minister, as he launched the Swachh Bharat Abhiyaan or clean India campaign at Advanced Systems Laboratory in DRDO's missile complex here.

"Rapid advances in technologies provide ample opportunities for bringing in innovations in waste management," he added.

"Every individual in the country is morally bound to contribute towards clean, healthy environment and ecosystem. I am sure that the Swachh Bharat Abhiyaan initiated towards cleanliness will transform the outlook of the nation," he said.

Avinash Chander, along with V.G. Sekaran, director general, Missiles and Strategic Systems and Tessy Thomas, director, Advanced Systems Laboratory, also participated in the cleanliness drive.

A pledge was administered at the DRDO headquarters, New Delhi and also at various laboratories and establishments of DRDO across India, said a statement released here.
