BANGALORE: The technology world is witnessing a shift due to the amount of data that is being generated each year from various business sectors. The past one year the Cloud initiation has made a huge headline among Tech Industries with cloud computing, software, network and cloud storage. IBM is a leader in the cloud computing arena with the safest network solution but Google and Amazon are the giants when it comes to cloud storage.

Now the threat in the cloud storage arena is that Amazon and Google are giving its clients a more feasible amount to store their data in their servers. Well nothing comes free so the charge levied by these two companies is remarkably cheap when it comes to smaller players like Box, Dropbox and Hightails, reports Economic Times. So the problem for the smaller players is that they are not able to compete with the prices of Amazon and Google.

"These guys will drive prices to zero," said Aaron Levie, co-founder and chief executive of Box. "You do not want to wait for Google or Amazon to keep cutting prices on you 'Free' is not a business model’, as reported  by ET. This is the frustration of small companies who might have to keep reducing their prices in order to keep their customers at bay.

Amazon and Google’s prices are in cents and pennies when it comes to storage plus free transfer of data to cloud. But when it comes to these smaller Tech Firms they can’t cut to that low because they just can’t bear the cost of running the company at low prices.

So to counter these huge Firms, these smaller players are coming up with a niche approach that gives their clients unlimited storage for a certain price each month.

Box has nearly 39,000 businesses using their products with a fee of $15 to $35 a month. DropBox charges $15 per user for a month to nearly 10 terabytes of data. Hightail’s customers are paying $25 per month. This is the structure of these smaller cloud storage companies.

The niche approach is to have Industry-Specific Storage facility and also to come with an unlimited option to boost their customers. This is being done in hopes that Google does not start specific storage for industries. "At this point, it's better just to say 'unlimited,'" Levie said. "The thing to do is taking into account why someone is storing something online and what their needs are," reports ET.
