Apple To Seek 'Billions' From Samsung in Patent Case

Bangalore: It’s all official- Tech giants Apple is all set to ask more than $2.5 billion as damage costs from Samsung when a high-profile patent lawsuit between the companies goes in front of the California jury next week.

Apple has already submitted the required paper works in the form of documents as they have already moved a step ahead of the Korean super titans, where the much talked trial is all set to begin on Monday.

According to Apple's trial brief "Samsung has reaped billions of dollars in profits and caused Apple to lose hundreds of millions of dollars through its violation of Apple's intellectual property."

The documents also said that Apple has claimed for over $500 million as profit loss and $25 million in the name of royalty damages. According to the filing, Apple lawyers are all set to ask the jury for "a combined total of $2.525 billion.”

The trickiest part is that soon after Apple submitted its documents to the court, Samsung has put forward its own trial brief which said that Apple’s move is "a natural extension of its attempt to monopolize the marketplace."

"Damages are meant to compensate, not confer an absurd windfall at the expense of competitions and consumers worldwide," it said.

The case covers up a number of patents that summarizes up from the design of smartphones to certain technologies used in them. According to reports, the whole tech world is watching this high profile battle between two of the most prolific companies in the technology platform.

Last week, Apple’s CEO Tim Cook and Samsung boss Choi Gee-Sung met in California, only the second meeting between the two companies this year, after the court judge asked them to resolve the differences between them before the trials.
