Apple Gets Rampant in India, Sales Rise 400 Pct in 3 Months

Bangalore: At last the lengthy ignorance is over. Apple, who has been on a long struggle to get the attention of strict Indian Smartphone buyers dominated by rivals like Samsung and Nokia, has now found the road to translation as sales have rose to around 400 percent just in 3 months.

The increased Indian interest means new challenges for the legendary company and its iconic products. But from the company’s point of view, the story is different. Apple moved out from the usual strategy in partnering with mobile operators to an extensive advertising and marketing campaign for its iPhone. These tactics have really worked out for Apple, as analysts predict that Apple’s next target will be to introduce the iPad in the top end of the Indian Smartphone market.

"Apple is doing what it did in China three or four years ago. They studied the market, learned consumer needs and suddenly went aggressive," said Jayanth Kolla, founder and partner at Convergence Catalyst, a telecom research firm. "From having about 30 people here six months ago, Apple India is now about 150-people strong."
