Affiliated Websites Rev up E-Commerce Sales.

BANGALORE: The online shopping industry always comes out with the most innovative ways to attract customers; one of the measures adopted is through the affiliated sites. Online portals attract customers through cash back offers, coupons and daily deals which prove to be beneficial for internet companies and online retailers. As told to the Economic times.

The experts on the matter said that the e- commerce websites pay a 2 to10 pct commission to the affiliated websites based on each model sold online. Low profit margins like books and electronics generate upto 5 pct. On the other hand, the fast moving goods like clothes, shoes and fashion products pay up to 10 pct. Based upon the expert opinion on price comparison sites, coupons offered by the e- commerce websites turn into direct sales for them generating up to 90 pct of the traffic.

"The mind-shift happened around last year as it became clear that affiliates provide twice the returns that a digital marketing campaign does," said Sulakshan Kumar, founder and director of MySmartPrice, a price comparison site.

The industry valuates about 10 to 15 pct of the online business and the traffic on the websites including the online travel portals is through affiliated websites. They are expected to grow more with the industry predicting to touch a mark of $56 billion in the next decade.

"The affiliate ecosystem can be a great support for Indian e-commerce ventures," said Christian Schiller, co-founder and managing director of PricePanda, a price comparison website.
