BANGALORE: India is one of the poorest countries in the world and the negligence towards the rural population adds to the pathetic situation. Smita Ramakrishna and Ramakrishna NK: Inspired by Aamir Khan’s movie ‘Rang De Basanti’, Smita Ramakrishna and Ramakrishna NK realized that they had to do something to bring about a positive change to the backward Indian society.

Having been introduced to the topic of microcredit in 2006; they decided to start Rang De, in 2008  by providing microloans to people from backward societies. Rang De gives loans up to 8,000 with very low interest rates to people who want to start their own small businesses.

Rang De’s online platform allows individuals to support and lend a minimum of 100 to people who need small amounts of money. NGOs also play a major role in lending money to individuals and till date, they have 4,800 people who have contributed to the cause.
