When was the last time we kept a check on our privacy settings or made sure that our information was secure? The recent incidents have made us insecure and keeps us reminding, 'Information is wealth' we need to protect it. Here are some of the greatest data thefts that have occurred in the recent years.

1.Heartland Payment Systems

In March of 2008, 134 million credit cards' information was exposed through an SQL injection to install spyware on Heartland's data systems. Heartland Payment Systems, credit card processing and online payments company was a victim of security breach within in its own processing system. The stolen information included digital data from magnetic strips of the card. In in August 2009, Albert Gonzalez and two unnamed Russian were charged for masterminding the attack. In March of 2010, Gonzalez was sentenced to 20 years of prison. Back in 2008, SQL injection was mostly used for web facing applications.
