Symantec Backup Exec and NetBackup:

Symantec offers two backup solutions, NetBackup and Backup Exec. The BackupExec is self integrated with various virtualization platforms and serves services such as deduplication and archiving technology. The software is available across various platforms such as Windows, Linux and Mac.

Symantec NetBackup is an enterprise level heterogeneous backup and recovery suite. It provides cross-platform backup functionality to a large variety of Windows, UNIX and Linux operating systems. The software is designed in such a way that it involves a central backup storage server that manages both media servers and clients. The core server device covers platforms such as Solaris, HP-UX, AIX, Tru64, Linux and Windows.

"Symantec BackupExec works well for homogenous Windows server-centric environment," said Michael Lapetino, a CDW solution architect. "It is generally aimed at small to medium enterprises where tape and disk-based backup strategies are fairly commonplace. Customers appreciate the robust feature set of BackupExec and the relatively affordable acquisition cost to manage and deploy it in traditional computing environments."
