4 Knots Enterprise Marketplaces Need To Unravel

BANGALORE:  Enterprise application marketplaces have grown by leaps and bounds in the past few years. This is primarily because corporate IT departments are frustrated with going through long procurement practices for each app. The emergence of enterprise marketplaces that offer a variety of apps in one place have solved some of these problems, but they still have knots to untie. Techcrunch.com and Venturebeat.com have compiled a list of things Enterprise marketplaces could do better:

Make Enterprise Apps Visible

Unlike consumer apps, which are plastered across mobile platforms, enterprise applications are barely visible. While platforms like the Google App Marketplace, Salesforce AppExchange and The Microsoft Office App Store make their enterprise apps visible across their own platforms, it is difficult to locate third-party applications.

In the mobile space, both Android and iOS are working hard to integrate third party applications into their platforms, so that they can attract both consumers who like different kinds of products and developers who can work on many platforms simultaneously.

The consumer app marketplace also has sophisticated prediction technology to suggest apps exactly when consumers need them. For example, a variety of fitness tracker apps that pop up on people’s mobile phones the moment they enter the gym. Enterprise apps should also have the same level of marketing; as of now, these apps are not presented in the context when the user needs them the most.
