YouWeCan Ventures: Yuvraj Singh's Business Debut


BANGALORE: This year’s IPL’s most expensive player, Yuvraj Singh is all set to venture as a businessman with investment in the startup sector. The endeavor focuses on backing young entrepreneurs.

The 34-year old cricketer will set afloat his YouWeCan Ventures with an investment of 50 crore. The investment will continue over a span of 3-5 years and estimates to sum up to 300 crore from other investors in this span, reports The Economic Times.

Yuvraj Singh said, "I had been thinking about this for four-five years. There are a lot of young entrepreneurs with great high-potential ideas and I plan to invest in these startups, to build their brands and companies."

The Indian cricketers are amongst the well-heeled people in the country and for most part of them are known to invest their hard earned money in businesses. However, Yuvraj Singh would the first among the cricketers to start a venture fund.

Mahendra Singh Dhoni, the Indian Team Captain, has also invested in businesses and sports but not in a similar fund. Robin Uthappa has also tried his hand in startup by partnering in investing a food delivery company in Bengaluru but Singh’s venture looks more highly structured.

The venture fund will back startups in various sectors like healthcare, services and fashion, e-commerce, sports products travel and tourism and hospitality. The endeavor would provide Rs 10-25 lakh of seed funding to these startups. 

"Many of my friends and associates will co-invest in building large-scale brands and firms," he added yet refused to unveil any names as the plan is still in process. The idea involves launching restaurants with a brand name YouWeX. However the design of restaurants are still under working, said a co-promoter of the fund, Rohit Singhal.

"We will handhold them from seed capital to their series A funding," added Singhal. In addition to this, he also mentioned that there would be exit clause at 5-8 years on the investment. YouWeCan Ventures awaits the end of IPL 8 for announces the first investment.
