Tim Cook Likely to Meet PM Modi on his Maiden Visit to India

BENGALURU:  India is turning up as the fastest growing technology market. For the first time in the history, Apple CEO is going to visit India this week. Late Steve Jobs has visited India once in his early days of the carrier, but as a CEO Tim Cook will be the first Apple executive to visit the world’s fastest growing smartphone market.

Cook's visit, comes at the time as Apple looks for new growing markets after posting its first ever decline in iPhone sales. It is to be noted that India has recently denied permission to sell refurbished phones. In a television interview earlier this month, Cook had said Apple sees a "huge market potential" for its products in India and that it is "really putting energy" in the country.

Cook is likely to visit multiple Indian cities and later on the week, he plans to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi. It is probable that Apple would make some India-centric announcement during this visit. Cook's entourage includes five top executives comprising of Apple's COO Jeff Williams, as well. He will fly–in to Mumbai on 17th April night and head straight to the iconic Taj Mahal Palace hotel. While Cook is expected to stay at the grand luxury Suite in the heritage Wing of the iconic hotel, other team members will stay in Taj Club Sea View Rooms and Taj Club City View Rooms – Reports Economic Times.

If rumors are to be believed, the company will open three Apple Stores throughout the country within the next 18 months, one each in Delhi, Bangalore and Mumbai. Cook's visit to India comes after the Modi's visit to the Silicon Valley last year where they had discussed plans to start manufacturing of Apple products in India under the ambitious ‘Make in India’ initiative.
