The Most Admired Companies of 2014


BANGALORE: Fortune and Hay Group have come up with the World’s Most Admired Companies List for 2014. Fortune describes this list as the “most definitive report card on corporate reputations”.  The exercise got started with a pool of 697 companies chosen from the initial 1400 Fortune listed companies. To arrive at the final list, a questionnaire was sent to senior executives, outside directors and industry analysts-total 15,000 of them participated. The objective of the survey was to evaluate the companies on the basis of a set of 9 attributes- Ability to attract and retain talented people, Quality of management, Social responsibility to the community and the environment, Innovativeness, Quality of products or services, Wise use of corporate assets, Financial soundness, Long-term investment value and Effectiveness in doing business globally. Here is the list of the 10 companies that topped the survey.

Apple: The social media is abuzz with wild guesses- will it have a thinner body, will it come loaded with sensors and a display screen of 5.5”? And the analysts are busy predicting the impact of a large 5.5” display screen on the market. This entire buzz is about iPhone 6- Apple’s next product. Never has a pending product launch generated such curiosity and debate in public. This tells something about how admired Apple is- the world over.  The multinational tech company, which manufactures communication and media devices and deals with digital content, has reported revenue of $ 170.910 billion. The company was also declared the Most Valuable Brand by Interbrand. This is for the 7th time that the company features at the top spot of the World’s Most Admirable Companies List.
